Memorial Policy

Adopted September 13, 2009 • Revised March 2, 2025

Bennett Family Park (BFP) is sensitive to the memorials its constituents would like to place on park property in memorial of those who have likely enjoyed the park. At the same time, BFP must preserve the park ambiance by controlling the approval of the memorials as well as manage the tenure of each memorial so as to not continue to grow the number of memorials and not have a strategy to not burden those generations to follow with over abundant memorials. The number of memorials shall not detract from the prime recreational purposes of BFP and BFP may limit the number of memorials in a particular area. Memorials will be positioned to maximize the benefit to an area.
BFP has adopted this policy to avoid immediate and future potential issues related to these
memorials:

All memorials placed on BFP property must have the approval of the BFP Board of Director’s
unanimous approval. Please directly them to the BFP President.

Applications for memorials shall include:

  1. Short description of the person being memorialized. The name shall be displayed on the memorial plaque shall be the individual’s full proper name. Nicknames, where appropriate, may be included.
  2. Sponsor’s/applicant’s contact information. Next of kin or an executor of estate must also sponsor the application with their signature and that of the sponsor, if not one in the same.
  3. Description of the memorial. No additional mementos, e.g. vases, statues, etc., shall be permitted at the location of the memorial.
  4. Individual(s) who will be responsible for acquiring the memorial and installation.
  5. Requested location of the memorial.
  6. Requested tenure of the memorial.
  7. Contribution grant amount to BFP related to the memorial.

Suggested $200 minimum for a name plaque to add to Field 4. Other memorials to be appropriate based on size/location of the memorial.

Memorials placed on BFP property without BFP Board of Director’s approval must be promptly removed or will be removed by BFP.
BFP is not responsible for the maintenance and repair of the memorials; this is the sponsor’s responsibility. Unmaintained memorials and dilapidated memorials will be removed by BFP.

BFP reserves the right to remove any memorials that have been damaged and is beyond repair.
Memorials must have all the beginning and end of their tenure at the park so as to leave opportunities for future generations to be able to do the same without overburdening BFP with such memorials.

BFP accepts no liability for damage to any memorials from vandalism, third parties, or while carrying out maintenance activities unless specifically noted.

Scattering of ashes also requires BFP Board of Director’s unanimous approval.

Applications for memorials to pets or to scatter ashes of pets shall not be accepted.
